No. 5 Georgia, No. 16 Arkansas explode for 40-run, 11-homer game in rubber match

Southern Cal, Coastal Carolina reenter this week's Power 10

Power was under control for the first two games of No. 5 Georgia and No. 16 Arkansas series, a rare statement to pin on both SEC squads.

The Bulldogs entered the weekend leading the country in home runs by a mile, sitting at 100 as they chase LSU’s 1997 record of 188. The Razorbacks have scored 10 or more runs in 11 contests.

But consecutive low-scoring affairs from two strong offenses only led to fireworks in the rubber match. The two combined to score 40 runs in Georgia's series-clinching 26-14 win.

They combined for 35 hits as 15 different players scored.

Arkansas jumped out to an early 6-1, putting three runs across in both the first and second innings. Georgia answered with a six-run third, though, backed by a trio of big flies from catcher Daniel Jackson, infielder Ryan Wynn and first baseman Brennan Hudson — the latter two were back-to-back.

The Bulldogs would go on to score at least a run for the next five innings, eight runs total, while the Razorbacks’ punches came in spurts, scoring three in the fourth and two in the seventh.

Georgia led 15-11 heading into the ninth, when the power struggle reached its climax.

The Bulldogs tapped into a new level, scoring 11 runs to take a 26-11 lead. Designated hitter Michael O'Shaughnessy went deep twice and Wynn sent another over during the Bulldogs' mayhem of 15 plate appearances and seven hits.

Arkansas couldn't answer the outburst, scoring three in the ninth to lose its second home series of the season.

Georgia moved up to first in the conference standings and set an SEC and school record with nine home runs in an SEC matchup. It  took only four players to make it happen, a symbol of how strong this lineup is. Jackson tied the school record for three home runs in one game, while O'Shaughnessy, Wynn and Hudson each tallied two.

The Bulldogs' 46 runs from the entire week was the most runs scored by any team in college baseball last week.
